Burbank Police Department Range/Training Facility

pr12The purpose and design of the Burbank Police Department Range and Training Facility is to support learning and foster proficiency in specialized perishable concepts, tactics, and weaponry manipulation for law enforcement personnel. Specific training topics include :

  • Decision Making
  • Threat Recognition
  • Defensive Tactics
  • Communications
  • Use of Force
  • Firearms
  • Less-Lethal Weaponry
  • Ethics

The facility is located in the hills overlooking Burbank. It consists of several distinct sections including a classroom, defensive tactics gymnasium, outdoor firing range with 800 yard firing capability, indoor shooting house, and a fully equipped wood/metal support shop. The layout of the facility lends to training in valuable specialized areas such as indoor and outdoor low/no light searching and confrontations.

Training is accomplished via on-going monthly and selected yearly training sessions, which are mandatory for all police personnel. A variety of training techniques are utilized to create a proficient learning environment. Basic concepts are introduced in a modern classroom setting with the aid of power point presentations. Training evolves onto the range for basic and advanced marksmanship exercises. Reality/scenario based training coupled with force on force encounters are utilized to test conceptual understanding and response to simulated real life use of force situations.
