Thank you for your interest in rescuing your next pet from the Burbank Animal Shelter. We are excited to have integrated a new adoption by appointment process to streamline traditional adoption procedures. Watch the short video below to learn how you can rescue your next pet!
TO FIND YOUR PERFECT MATCH, FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW:
STEP 1: VIRTUALLY MEET OUR ADOPTABLE PETS
View available shelter pets on our website and select one to two pets you are interested in meeting.
STEP 2: COMPLETE ADOPTION APPLICATION
Download and complete an adoption application for the animal type you are interested in adopting (adoption applications can be found below). Once completed, email your signed application to email@example.com
with your full name in the subject line (example: John Doe’s Application).
STEP 3: SELECT AN ADOPTION SCREENING APPOINTMENT
Use our online appointment
system to choose a time that works best for you and other members in your household to conduct an in person meet-and-greet at our Shelter. Links to our adoption appointments can be found on the profiles of pets currently available for adoption.
STEP 4: PRE-ADOPTION SCREENING
The day before your appointment, you will be contacted by an adoption counselor to confirm your appointment, review your application and provide you with more information about the pet you are scheduled to meet.
STEP 5: MEET AND GREET
Arrive at the Shelter for a meet and greet. Potential adopters are asked to call the shelter upon their arrival. A Shelter staff member will meet you in the parking lot to escort you to one of our designated meeting areas where one of our pets will be excited to meet you. Social distancing and safety measures will be observed. Potential adopters will be expected to wear masks at all times, or to stay home if feeling unwell.
STEP 6: ADOPTION SUCCESS
If the meet-and-greet is successful and you decide to adopt, Shelter staff will direct you to our front lobby where you can finalize your adoption!
All customers must have their temperatures checked prior to admittance into the Animal Shelter. Temperature screenings will be conducted by staff utilizing contactless thermometers. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher will not be allowed to proceed with their adoption appointment and will be advised to contact their medical provider for guidance.
A 3-day buffer period will be set for newly available pets to allow the public to submit an adoption application for that pet. Should there be multiple interested adopters indicating a raffle will be needed, a cut off date and time will be posted on the pet's profile at which point we will no longer consider new applicants for the raffle drawing. After the cut-off date and time, an applicant will be selected randomly using Excel. The applicant will be notified he/she was selected for an adoption screening and has until 5 pm on the day of the raffle to contact the Shelter. An appointment will be made after reviewing the application and conducting a pre-screening with the applicant. If adoption is not approved, a new raffle drawing will be conducted with the remaining applicants until an adoption is approved.
