Bear Sighted at the Burbank DeBell Golf Course Friday Afternoon, July 8

BURBANK POLICE DEPARTMENT PUBLIC SAFETY ADVISORY

A bear was seen on the 18-hole DeBell Golf Course today, a little after noon, near the 11th hole.  The black bear was last seen walking back into the hills.  DeBell and the Burbank Nature Center have posted signs for patrons and visitors, warning them of the bear’s presence.  The Burbank Police Animal Shelter and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife have been advised of the sighting.

Refer to these tips from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife if you encounter a bear:  Do not run; instead, face the animal, make noise and try to appear as large as possible.  If attacked, fight back.  If a bear attacks a person, immediately call 911.

Media inquiries about this incident should be referred to the Burbank Police Department Press Information Office, (818) 238-3240.  Burbank residents who have specific questions about animal related situations may call the Animal Shelter at (818) 238-3340, during business hours.
