Burbank Unified Back in Session - Help Keep Our Kids Safe!

August 17, 2016 10:43 AM

The Burbank Unified School District began classes this week for the 2016-2017 school year.  We are all responsible for making sure our children get to and from school safely.

Here are some helpful tips to keep in mind during the school year:

  • Always make sure children know their home address and phone number.
  • Instruct them to never walk alone, to always stay where there is plenty of light, and to never talk to strangers.
  • If your child rides his/her bike, remind them to follow the rules and always make sure they wear the proper safety equipment including helmets.
  • Drivers must slow down and obey all speed limits in areas where you are likely to find people walking and bicycling.  These areas include bus stops, schools, and parks.
  • Avoid distractions; and be prepared to yield to pedestrians in both marked and unmarked crosswalks.

The Burbank Police Department works with the Burbank Unified School District and each campus directly to provide protection for our children.  Please help us in our goal of keeping them safe while traveling to and from school.

Please share and keep these tips in mind while near our schools and in areas where our kids are walking and biking.  Slow Down, be aware of your surroundings, and drive safely.
