The Patrol Division receives and responds to all calls for emergency services, conducts timely initial investigations and appropriate follow-up, prevents crime through pro-active, directed and non-directed patrols, and prepares documentation on all calls for service and police reports. It consists of Patrol, Traffic, Gang Enforcement Team (GET), Parking Enforcement, and Air Support.
The Gang Unit is a unit is a hybrid team within Burbank Police Department’s Patrol Division.
The Gang Unit is currently made up of four patrol officers, who are assigned to the team as a collateral duty. A detective is also assigned as a liason to the unit. The unit members are responsible for suppression of gang activity and combating gang crime. This is accomplished through directed patrol and enforcement, building and maintaining knowledge and expertise on local gangs, investigation of gang-related crimes, and working in partnership with other agencies and members of the community.
The Gang Unit works with the Burbank Unified School District, Burbank Housing Corporation, Parks and Recreation and Graffiti Removal. The team also has strong working relationships with federal agencies, state parole, county probation and gang units from surrounding police agencies.

Understanding the advantages of public safety aviation, the City of Burbank has made a significant investment in establishing the Police Air Support Unit. In 1979, the City joined forces with the City of Glendale to create a joint Air Support Unit which continues to operate today.

The mission of the Burbank Police Department's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team is the preservation of life and property during critical incidents and high-risk operations. The SWAT Team is called upon to respond for service of high-risk search and arrest warrants; incidents involving barricaded suspects, hostage rescues, or active shooters; crowd control; and other situations requiring resources beyond the capacity of the patrol division. Members of SWAT also provide training in tactics to other members of the police department, during directed training exercises.

The Burbank Police Department’s K-9 Unit was established in 1980. The K-9 Unit is currently comprised of a Lieutenant and Sergeant, who supervise the two officers/handlers and their canine partners. The K-9 unit is an effective crime deterrent that enhances our patrol bureau with article, vehicle, and building searches.

The Burbank Police Department and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health have joined together in a cooperative effort to provide the City of Burbank and the community we serve, a mental health team to address the growing needs of those suffering from mental illness and homelessness.
