August 25, 2022 08:29 AM
On August 21, 2022, at about 8:00 p.m., the Burbank Police responded to the 100 block of Linden Court to investigate a suspicious bag left on the sidewalk. An alert citizen called the police and said she saw a male place a duffle bag next to a street sign and then walk away.
When officers arrived, they looked in the bag and observed an assault weapon with a spent shell casing stuck in the ejection port. Officers obtained a description of the male seen discarding the bag, and reviewed surveillance video of the incident, which provided officers with a good description of the person.
Officers conducted an area check and located the male a short distance away. Officers were able to identify the male, who was a convicted felon.
The male has been identified as 44-year-old Sergio Ruiz, a resident of Burbank.
Mr. Ruiz was placed under arrest and booked for possession of an assault weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, both felonies. The investigation was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for review and filing consideration. On August 23, 2022, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed 30605(a) PC and 29800(a)(1) PC against Mr. Ruiz. Mr. Ruiz has since bonded out and is due to appear in court on September 13, 2022.
