Focused Traffic Enforcement Operation Yields 48 Citations

Burbank, California - On the evening of Saturday, April 20, 2019, Motor Officers from the Burbank Police Department Traffic Bureau conducted an enforcement task force along the Glenoaks Boulevard corridor, ranging from the southern border with the City of Glendale to the northern border with the City of Los Angeles.
The operation was held between the hours of 4:00 P.M. and 10:00 P.M., during which motor officers conducted 64 traffic stops and issued 48 citations for various violations, including excessive speed and distracted driving. The highest violator speeds recorded on city streets during the operation were 63 and 64 miles per hour (MPH). Both drivers were issued citations.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently released the following statistics:
“In 2016, there were 51,914 drivers involved in 34,439 fatal crashes, in which 37,461 people lost their lives. Eighteen percent of the drivers involved were speeding at the time of the crash, and 27 percent of those killed were in a crash involving at least one speeding driver. Young male drivers were the most likely to be speeding at the time of the fatal crash. In 2016, nearly one-third (32%) of male drivers in the 15- to 20-year-old age group involved in fatal crashes were speeding at the time of the crash, compared to 22 percent for the female drivers in the same age group (source national Highway Traffic Safety Administration 2016 speeding data traffic safety facts DOT HS 812 480)."
