OFFICIAL STATEMENT REGARDING SOCIAL MEDIA THREAT AGAINST J.B.H.S. STUDENT

February 19, 2019 09:44 AM

The Burbank Police Department and Burbank Unified School District are committed to the safety and education of all students and staff. Essential to this commitment is open communication with parents about safety issues when they arise.

Over the weekend, the Burbank Unified School District was made aware of a threat against a John Burroughs High School student, which was circulating on social media. Several people came forward and reported this threat to the Burbank Police Department.

Burbank Police Detectives are currently investigating the origin of the threat and the circumstances surrounding it. Although the investigation is ongoing, there does not appear to be any immediate threat to the school, students or staff.

Safety and security on school campuses is our first priority. All threats to our schools, students, or staff are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. In response to this incident, patrol efforts and police presence has been increased on and near the campus of John Burroughs High School.

At this time, we encourage students to attend school. We also urge parents to discuss this event with children and emphasize the seriousness of the issue. If you discover anything that might assist with this investigation, we ask that you to contact the Burbank Police Department Juvenile Investigations Division, at (818) 238-3250.
