Mounted Unit
The Burbank Police Department Mounted Unit was revived in 1995 on an experimental basis, primarily for ceremonial occasions. The Mounted Unit members have other primary assignments and are selected on a volunteer basis.
The volunteer cadre provides their own horse and equipment while assigned to the detail. The officers and their horses constantly train in order to gain additional expertise dealing with crowd control issues and public appearances. Once both the officer and the horse are certified, they are used in a variety of details. You may see them at Police/Fire Service Day, National Night Out, The Hoof and Woof event, teaching safety at our local schools, and instructing at the Regional Occupational Program at the Burbank Animal Shelter.
The unit is self-supporting, so the ongoing costs related to the care and feeding of the horses are the responsibility of the individual members. If you are interested in donating to the Mounted Unit, contact the Burbank Police Foundation at 818-237-9032.
The Burbank Police Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organized and supported by Burbank residents, the local business community and members of the Burbank Police Department independent of The City of Burbank.
