Confirmed Case of Flea-Borne Typhus Fever

Recently, Vector Control of Los Angeles County confirmed a case of flea-borne typhus in Burbank. The case is the first reported one for 2014. The Burbank Animal Shelter is working with the Los Angeles County Vector Control to inform our residents with educational pamphlets and additional information on safety precautions. Endemic Typhus Fever (aka: Murine typhus or Flea-borne typhus) is a disease caused by a bacteria known as Rickettsia.

 

TIP A COP EVENT @ CLAIM JUMPER - APRIL 17, 2014 5:00 - 9:00 P.M.

Personnel from the Burbank Police Department are taking part in the annual “Tip a Cop” event at the Claim Jumper restaurant in Burbank on April 17, 2014, from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. Police Officers in uniform will be on hand to assist the staff at the restaurant in serving food and waiting on tables.

 

Suspect Identified and Arrested For Stabbing Two Victims

Investigators identifed a suspect in this stabbing and he was arrested late Saturday evening. Both victims will survive On Saturday, March 15, 2014, at approximately 3:50 p.m., Burbank Police Department Communications received a 911 call regarding a stabbing that occurred in the 1000 block of East Angeleno Avenue. Officers and fire department paramedic personnel arrived and located two male adult victims, both in their early 20’s, suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Local Burglary Suspects Arrested, Property Recovered

Burbank residents experienced a recent rash of residential and garage burglaries. There have been fifteen reports, primarily of theft of power tools, computers, and sound equipment, in just the past three weeks. Through our investigation of these thefts and with the assistance of evidence recovered by our Forensic Specialists, a suspect was identified. An arrest warrant was obtained and Nicholas Caves, M/25, transient, was arrested by investigators late Monday afternoon.

ROBBERY SUSPECT ARRESTED

Since January 5, 2014, the Burbank Police Department has responded to six robberies or attempted robberies of local businesses. There were no reported injuries related to these incidents, although in some instances, the suspect was reported to have brandished/referenced a weapon. Based on the description provided by victims and witnesses, the same subject was believed to have been responsible for these crimes.

 

Police Provide Safety Tips After Another Mountain Lion Sighting

On January 29, 2014, a mountain lion was spotted near the 3000 block of Wedgewood Lane in Burbank. This bulletin is intended to alert the community of the sighting and to provide precautions to keep residents and their pets safe.

Over the last few weeks the Burbank Police Department has been made aware of individuals who are impersonating Burbank Water and Power employees and calling businesses and attempting to collect funds from the business.
